Words of Light: Grace & Truth for Your Journey Home
That bend before you, in all its delicious possibility,
Still holds the fear of not being what you imagined.
That dream you clutch,
Like a road map into the great unknown,
Lacks topography,
Clouds in obscurity,
The friends who’ll walk this road with you.
It does not tell you
If you have dreamed too big or too small.
It does not tell you
If you are ready to meet success and failure
With equal parts humility and courage.
It does not tell you
If you will like the person
You’ve become when, at last, you come
To where it is you’re going.
The road before you may be bathed in shadows,
Dappled in sunlight,
Wind-blown and pinecone-strewn.
Glory-glow coming after
Sleep-less nights.
The dream may lead you within the scent of water,
May drag you by the edges of your fingernails
Over blizzard-battered cliffs.
It may threaten to beat the very life
From your spirit.
But the spirit stretched to the edges of itself
By a vivid waking dream
Is more alive than the spirit
That doesn’t dare to dream one.
Dreams die.
They fade quickly in the barren plains
Of unmarked faithfulness,
Weeks and months of placing
One foot in front of the other,
While the barely shifting scenery
Gives the illusion of going backwards.
Dare to dream anyway.
And pause, dear soul, at the horizon
Of your dream.
Bend over and sift the sand for sea glass.
Hold yesterday and tomorrow
In opposite hands,
Balancing them in this liminal space
We call today.
For He, who holds not time
As we do,
Who fills the very edges of eternity,
Stands
Beside you
Behind you
Before you.
Go forth in joy
You do not walk alone.

Yes. This whole piece feels personal to me right now; it fits so well. Thank you for sharing.
I wonder, was this inspired also by your plan to pursue more education?

Perhaps, yes, although the dream is bigger than that.

Yes, girl! Goosebump-giving, glorious words! It would be beautiful just for the words, but with all the meaning makes it amazing.
